Intellectual Wellness

What is Intellectual Wellness?

Intellectual is one that i would have never given a second glance to because I feel that most environments are stimulating and or people search for some type of nourishment intellectually. Whether that be with a partner who can bring new knowledge to daily conversations or if it is to continue one’s education past college. This wellness falls under the mental dimension because if the thing that is intellectually stimulating is causing long term stress, then your mental health will be hindered. These activities should expand your knowledge, while allowing you to share your new knowledge and skills with others.

What are some activities which promote Intellectual Wellness?

  • Activity 1: Take classes

With the advancement in technology, anyone can take classes from the comfort of their own home in order to continue education. This could be continuing education, taking an art class or even a fitness class because you will be learning new information.  The activity should be stimulating your brain by coming up with creative ideas or by strengthening your short term/long term memory. This wellness also has the opportunity to be combined with social wellness as well.

  • Activity 2: Read

The willingness to get lost in a good book may not always be the first thing a young person thinks of doing. Reading is a great alternative to watching the news or that movie based on a book you like so much. Picking up a book or newspaper to read can help stimulate the brain and engage the imagination. This is a flexible activity because you can read in any number of environments and locations at anytime of the day or night. I often find it helpful to read when I cannot fall asleep, that usually does the trick; however, that is not the point here. Stimulating your brain is one of the best ways to improve memory and who doesn’t want to recall those moments when we are older.
