Mental Wellness

What is Mental Wellness?

This wellness is the most important because the ability to be aware of one’s feelings can lead to coping with challenges and creating balance in their life. Mental encompasses everything a person deals with emotionally like behaviors and conscious daily thoughts. A person’s ability to express emotion can cause clarity to a clearer mind and overall happiness. If you are unhappy with your own behavior, work on making changes in the other dimensions to create a balance between the different catagories wellness.

What activities promote Mental Wellness?

  • Activity 1: Meditation

Meditation is a wonderful practice that anyone could begin in order to find inner peace and relaxation. This can be done anywhere at anytime that is calming to that person. The iTunes app has a plethora of guided apps to use for yoga and meditation practice. My personal favorite is DownDog because it is very customizable; including the voices and duration of the practice. I have utilized YouTube videos for guidance in practices as well, when I first started out. Suffering from anxiety, this wellness activity has helped my focus and clarity while at college.

  • Activity 2: Paint

During our childhood we were encouraged to express ourselves through drawing and painting, so why don’t we do more of that once we become adults. Many believe that you have to be talented or go to school to participate, but you don’t. Painting, drawing or even collaging is a perfect way to spend free time to dive into the depths of one’s mind. I have found that when I sit outside in nature while playing music, I paint what comes to me naturally. Most of the time it is the landscape I am looking at, but sometimes it is my current mood. There are also classes available to take to help with painting if you have no sense of artistic ability, but want to learn.
