What is Spiritual Wellness?
This one is interpreted many different ways, depending on the person you ask. The definition of spiritual wellness is finding your purpose or meaning in life through experiences. By tapping into the other 5 dimensions of wellness you could find your reason to life, whether it be your dream career or even just understanding how to improve upon yourself. The achievement of spiritual wellness is being connected to something greater than yourself with a set of values, principles, morals and beliefs. Spiritual is the most complex dimension of wellness, due to the magnitude of creation.
What activities promote Spiritual Wellness?
- Activity 1: Mediation
Meditation is a wonderful practice that anyone could begin in order to find inner peace and relaxation. This can be done anywhere at anytime that is calming to that person. The iTunes app has a plethora of guided apps to use for yoga and meditation practice. My personal favorite is DownDog because it is very customizable; including the voices and duration of the practice. I have utilized YouTube videos for guidance in practices as well, when I first started out. Suffering from anxiety, this wellness activity has helped my focus and clarity while at college. This activity is also listed under mental, because it places an emphasis on finding balance and inner peace.
- Activity 2: Safe space
A safe space is a place where someone could go to get away from any negativity in their life. This could be a bedroom, the backyard swing or even the kitchen table in the house. The space allows the person to regroup their thoughts and maybe complete an activity in the space like reading or meditation. However, the main purpose of this space is to create a positive environment for someone to relax in.
